  • Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)
    Many features at this site:
    • Radio National offers a number of broadcast transcripts from regular programs and special features.
    • ABC TV includes information from Compass a program that discusses religion, ethic and values in Australia and worldwide, transcripts from programs such as The 7.30 Report.
    • Learn Online is an information gateway to ABC educational resources.

  • Channel Nine - ninemsn
    Range of information from news and current affairs, infotainment, and other programs. Some include video, audio and transcripts.

  • SBS
    Includes summaries of world news, transcripts from programs such as Insight and Dateline, as well as a viewing guide.

  • Channel Seven
    Program information. Not friendly to basic browsers.

  • Channel Ten
    Busy site with information on programs including program guides.

ButtonOnline Dictionaries/Directories/Encyclopaedias

  • CIA World Factbook
    The US Central Intelligence Agency's online edition of its well-known annual country information reference book. Includes data on more than 260 countries - map and flag, geographic, population, government, economic, communication, transportation, and military.

  • Dictionary.com
    The search facility on this site access several dictionaries to provide a selection of definitions, allowing users to compare meanings. The site also includes a Q/A where visitors can ask Dr. Dictionary questions relating to words and grammar and a translation page that will translate anything from a phrase to an entire web page from one major European language, including English, to another.

  • A Web of On-line Dictionaries
    Over 800 dictionaries in over 150 different languages. The site covers dictionaries - mono and multilingual, grammars, and the Endangered Language Repository. Resources listed are mostly free, but some fee-based items are included if rare or unusually well-executed.

  • Whereis
    Online mapping service covering all metropolitan areas in Australia. Can be a bit clunky at times, but generally useful, providing UBDTM maps.

  • Academic Info
    Although this site calls itself a gateway to educational resources, it in fact covers much more. This directory of internet resources covers everything from agriculture to zoology. All items listed are annotated.

  • The Argus Clearinghouse
    A collection of topic guides that describe and evaluate internet resources. Extensive listings under the heading Education.

  • Infomine
    A library of internet resources including databases, electronic journals, electronic books, email discussion groups, online library catalogues, articles and directories of researchers, etc. Includes material on resources for K-12 and resources for university among other subject fields.

  • The WWW Virtual Library
    The VL is the oldest catalog of the web run by a loose confederation of volunteers, who compile pages of key links for particular areas in which they are expert. The individual indexes live on hundreds of different servers around the world. Access is via a search engine or by browsing through a hierarchy of subject headings.
